Precious Pennies From Heaven

This week was my mother's birthday.   She would have been 97 years old and I'm sure she would have been incredible at that age.

When I was growing up, she always taught me to trust in the universe. She would say "you will get pennies from heaven, just when you need them".

After she passed away, I started seeing pennies everywhere. There were always 2, even when something cost 99 cents, I would receive 2 pennies change.

I always felt like she was close to me in those moments and that it was her way of saying hello.

Today, as I was moving out of my apartment, I was checking to make sure I didn't leave anything behind and what did I find but 2 pennies.  They were at the very back of an unused shelf and instantly I knew mom was with me.

What a beautiful and loving reminder of a lesson so long ago.

Memories of Mom

The heavy cloud of grief has passed and now I can look back and remember all the wonderful things about my mother that the pain of losing her made me forget.  I'm not sure how many people knew her truly funny and quirky side.  She had such a serious and difficult life that it must have been very hard for her to relax and let her true self shine.  When she did it was a joy to behold and now that is the woman I remember.

She loved Science Fiction, watching Star Trek (the series) every week is one of my fondest family memories.   Then there were the Saturday night movies on our old black and white television.  Watching "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "War of the Worlds" was a special treat with popcorn and a bag of miniature powdered donuts!

She could be so funny and irreverent, I always thought that was the Irish side coming out.  She wasn't the sappy, sentimental type but she had so much love and passion.  You could see it every time she was near her grandchildren - she loved them more than anything in the world.

22 years on, I miss her more than I can say but now I can smile because I will always have my memories of mom.....

Always with me

It has been 21 years since my dear mother passed away.  For many years I felt the extreme loss of not having her here.  What I didn't realize is that she never went away.

Her vibrant, glorious spirit lives on - in the smiles of my precious grandchildren or the gorgeous roses that bloom.  She sends messages like a beautiful spring robin or two shiny new pennies to let me know she is near.

Every day in every way I see and feel her and know she is always with me.

Happy Birthday

Today is my mother's birthday and she would have been 87 years old. I would have loved to have seen her at that age.

She was such a strong and dynamic woman with a very tender heart. When I think back on what she had to endure in her lifetime I am grateful that she is now at peace.

I have wonderful memories of her sitting with her dear sisters laughing like little girls at the kitchen table. I hope they will do that today and celebrate the life of beautiful woman.

Happy Birthday Mom!
